The monastery was found by metropolitan Vasiliy in 1665 and after his death he gained his eternal peace here. He was canonized seven years after his death.

A vine grew from the wall where he died, though there is no solid ground on this place. That is why the fruit of this vine is considered to be healing for infertility. This is just one of the miracles of St Vasiliy.

The Ostrog monastery is a sacred place not only for Christians, but for all the religions, that is why pilgrims from all over the world come here to worship the sacred relics of St Vasiliy in hope for body and soul healing. After the Emty Tomb and Mount Athos Ostrog is the third most important Christian sanctuary.

Richard:”We are not very religious, but we were under great impression from the monastery and its surroundings and also from the number of pilgrims that get here by foot. The history of the monastery is very interesting and the views you get to see are truly stunning”

The monastery consists of the upper and lower monastery.

The upper monastery is situated at the altitude of 900 m on a nearly vertical mountain of Ostrog, from which opens a wonderful view of plain Bjelopavlica. One of its parts is in the hollow of the mountain and is divided into two churches: Virgin Marys appearence and St Christ. In the cave church of Virgin Marys appearence lie the relics of St Vasiliy of Ostrog. The body of the saint lies in a glass coffin without any signs of decay for the last 300 years. The monastery walls are covered with frescoes of the 17 century. The church of St Christ is situated in the upper part of the monastery, the walls were painted by Radul an artist who tried his best to insert the frescoes to the nature looking monastery stone walls.

The Lower monastery was built in the 19th century and consists of the church of Holy Trinity, doss-house and an orthodox school, opened in the 18th century. Liturgies, baptism and wedding ceremonies are held in this part of the monastery. There is a 5 km long asphalt road leading from the lower to the upper monastery. The walking path goes through the forest and is shorter – it will take you 25 min to get from one monastery to the other. To get the real magical feel from this sacred place take your time and walk the forest path – you won’t regret it!

Niki:”This isn’t just a touristic destination. This is a magical sacred place where people come to pray to St Vasiliy and his miracles. Even those who came here as tourists will tell you that they felt the incredible energy and peace”

The Ostrog monastery is not only a famous sanctuary it is also a well-known monument of culture and history. It is the silent witness of the past and the present, of the one faith and culture of the people who have lived here for centuries.

It is a true museum-city with a rich cultural and historical heritage and numerous buildings from the time of the byzantine and venetian ruling. The old sea port of Kotor is surrounded by majestic town walls. The city has remained very well and is under protection of UNESCO as a part of the World Heritage.

Irena:”This is without any doubt the most beautiful part of Europe”

Traditional happenings for Kotor such as carnivals, masked-balls, fish, cultural, religious holidays are enjoyed by all generations and have been attracting many tourists to the town for years.

Perast is the oldest settlement of the bays bank ( this is proved by the remains of late Stone Age culture). However Perast got its modern beautiful look only in the 17-18 centuries, becoming the most vivid example of baroque architecture on the Adriatic coast. Two islands situated very close to the town – Lady of the Rocks and St George – form a real union with the small settlement.

The legend says that on the day of 22d of July 1452 sailors found the icon of Virgin Mary with child on a sand mound in the middle of the sea. From that day on there was a tradition when sailors upon returning from a long sailing have put several stones on the place of the mound. That way the island Our Lady of the Rocks was formed.

The visiters of the church can also see the beautiful gobelin made by Jacinta Kunic-Miovic, who waited for her husband to return from sailing for 25 years in a row. She interlaced the gobelin with her hair, golden threads in youth and silver threads when she became old.

On the other side within only 20 minutes away from Kotor you can find Porto Montenegro – the first luxurious port On the Adriatic coast for yachts 12 to 150 m long.

Silvana: “Exclusive, harmonious and very pleasent place”

The national park Beogradska Gora is located in the center of the mountain range Bjelasica, between Tara and Lima rivers. Most of the parks territory is covered with virgin forests (total area of 1600 hectare, is one of the last existing in Europe). The park is situated in the basin of rivers Beogradska and Jezerstice and is one of the oldest districts kept under protection since 1878 named Knjazev Zabran or Branik. Some of the trees are more than 500 years old and the height of some of them is more than 60 meteres.

Biogradska Gora, Montenegro, foto: Snežana Trifunović, Wikipedia

Maria: “The incredibly beautiful lake is surrounded with fantastic vegetation. For those of you who love hiking and photoshooting – this place will become a real opening. A wonderful National park with lots of walking pathes, picnic zones, benches. It is very well equiped.”

In the very heart of the virgin forest we find the Biogradsko lake, the most famous and big glacier lake on the parks territory. In the still clear water you can see the reflection of the surrounding trees, which color everything with rich green, completing the unforgettable landscape and leaving a big impression on each person.

Biogradsko lake, Biogradska Gora, Montenegro, foto: Uri Bareket, Wikipedia

There are about 26 species of plants in the park, among which more than 2000 subspecies, with 20% of endemic plants of the Balkan Peninsula and 90 species of trees. The fauna is also very rich – there are 200 species of birds, 80 species of butterflies, 350 species of insects and typical inhabitants of wild nature (wolf, bear, fox, squirrel, roe, dormouse)

The incredible virgin forests, nature values and magical landscapes are the reason the park is included into the World Heritage and into the international ecological programme “Man and Biosphere”.

The history left a very big print on this place. The cultural-historic heritage of the park is formed by the arheological locations, sacred monuments and peoples constructions ( sheperds huts, wooden houses and mills).Numerous buildings are located at the foot of mountain Biogradska ( houses, huts, mills and so on).At the border of the National Park we find the famous Moraca monastery ( 18th century) which beholds rare frescoes of the 13th, 16th and 18th centuries and also some 17th century icons very important for our people.

Andrey: “This place is a must-see for all the art admirers. As I know art students from the Belgrade University come over here to learn from the masters. The whole atmosphere of the monastery is something unbelievable.”

The monastery has a very long history. It was built in 1252 and witnessed many historical happinings. According to the legend the yellow stone used for the building of the monastery was brought here from the settlement Tusina. The stones were given from one man to another in a whole row of voulanteers. The monastery was attacked by the Turks many times, it was completely destroyed and than reconstructed only in the 20th century.

The monastery consists of two churches – the main one built in the name of Virgin Marys Assumption and the smaller one dedicated to St Nicolas. The monastery is surrounded with high walls that have two gates. The monastery has a doss-house. There is a stream flowing through the monastery yard, falling down the monastery’s walls and forming the Svetigor waterfall, later on flowing into the Moraca river.

The Northen part of Montenegro is not as popular among tourists as the Adriatic coast, that is why people dont know what beauties it hides. One of the first fairly large cities of the region is Kolasin – it is the well-known centar of winter tourism. The city is within only an hour drive from the countries capital – Podgorica. Please enjoy your trip in our comfortable modern air-conditioned cars. During this hour we will go up to the altitude of 1000 m above sea level (that is the altitude difference between Podgorica and Kolasin).

The city is situated on a mountain plateau, in between the peaks of mountains Bjelasica and Sinjavina. The temperture throughout the year is lower than the coastal one, that is the reason why Kolasin becomes a wonderful option for those who dont like the summer heat and crowd. Kolasin is well-known as the air-spa, mountain-climbers and trekkers start their way from here to the beautiful peaks of Jablanov (2203m), Troglava(2075m), Zekova glava(2116m), Komovi(2484m), etc.

Katarina: “There is mainly traditional Montenegrian cuisine on the menu, though I managed to find some very nice vegetarian dishes for myself.”

If you are an admirer of good homemade food we highly recommend you to visit one of the numerous national restaurants of the region. We will help you pick the best place. Here you will be able to try something very special, something that you haven’t tried anywhere else but what is very traditional for this region. We gaurantee that way your impressions from visiting the North of Montenegro will be complete.

The National park of Durmitor is the most famous national park in Montenegro. The park is a part of UNESCO World Heritage since 1980. The park includes the Durmitor mountain range, canyons of Tara, Drage and Susice rivers and the biggest part of the valley of canyons Konarnice. Tara is the spring of a big European river called Drina, with a length of 150 km and is the longest river in Montenegro. The mountain range includes 48 peaks with an altitude more than 2000 m above sea level while the highest one is 2525 m high and is called the Bobotov peak.

Hans:”You will be amazed by the incredible views of the Tara canyon if you decide to get to Bobotov peak by car. Fascinating beauty! The river is quite calm and shallow in autumn, but the colors of the trees enrich the beauty of the canyon.”

Durmitor beholds the variaty of cultural and historical heritage of the local people. Here you will find roman and greek tombstones, christian churches and monasteries, wooden houses, sheperd huts and mills along the bank of the river.

The biggest city in Durmitor is Zabljak. It is located on the north-west of Montenegro, in the very heart of the national park at the altitude of 1456 m above sea level. Zabljak is the greatest mountain settlement on the Balkan peninsula. There are many tourists in the city all year round. Zabljak is the well-known centar of winter tourism, it is visited by many winter sports admirers. However even in summer it is visited by those who love hiking, alpinists, cyclists and everyone fond of outdoor activities.

The trip to Zabljak from the coast takes appx 3 hours. Enjoy the ride in our modern air-conditioned cars. To make the trip even more pleasent we advise you to stop and see some other Montenegrian beauties along the way (lake Skadar, Boka bay).

The particular charm of Durmitor is translated through folklore – local legends, stories, jokes, sayings, poetry and partisan songs – inspired by the great personalities and the unforgettable beauties of the region.

Crno jezero, Žabljak, Crna Gora, Foto: Foto Radević

There are 18 glacier lakes on Durmitor, the so-called “Mountain eyes”. They are situated in the dimples from where the glaciers started and got their name due to their beauty and clear water. Depending on the temperatures all the lakes are covered with snow and ice from november to may.

Ante: “We visisted Durmitor in December and as we expected we got to see lots of snow. We had really good luck with the weather – it was very sunny – we got a chance to explore the Tara canyon and have lovely walks with our dogs.”

Tara is one of the most beautiful rivers in Montenegro, it flows surrounded by unbelievable nature and mountain peaks of Bjelasice, Sinjavine, Ljubisne and Durmitor. The canyon of Tara has the altitude of 1600 m and is the highest and biggest in Europe (the highest world canyon is in Colorado, USA). The canyon is a worlds ecological basin due to the diversity of flora and fauna (more than 1500 species of plants and 130 species of birds), with numerous endemic, medical and relic plants.

The most famous attraction of the national park is Tara rafting. The rafting distance covers 90% of the river, however the best time for it is from the 1st of July till the 15th of September, when the river is calm and shallow and allows tourists to experience such an adventure. Those who have seen the river describe it as “clear as a tear”. That is the reason why Tara is called “Tear of Europe”.

You can also try yourself in fishing trout in a traditional way. With a special permission you will be able to take three of the caught fish with you. You can also take the fish to one of the local restaurants where it will be prepared in a traditional way. The buildings of Durmitor resemble the old Montenegrian houses made of stone and wood. Upon entering a house you will be treated with home-made rakia, donuts and honey. The hospitable local people will serve you traditional alcoholic drinks along with snacks and you will feel the incredible atmosphere of Durmitor.

Dont allow all this beauty to stay on the monitor! Words don’t mean anything until you feel the fresh cool water of Tara, hear the noise of its flow, see all the beauty of the canyon and try the local food. Once you try a small part of that you will fall in love with Durmitor forever!

Ana:”Incredible landscape! It is a must-see atlease once in a lifetime!”

Ada Bojana is famous for its nudist sandy beach which was opened in 1973. Tourists can stay in a camping, bungalows and also in wooden houses along the river bank.

Maria:”The restaurant located on the river bank. The gentle wind blows from the West. The calming sound of the waves. The sun that magicly disappears into the sea. Fantastic atmosphere, lovely cuisine.”

The Bojana river, that starts from the Skadar lake, is well known for numerous wooden fish houses located on its bank. Fisherman catch fish in the traditional way for this region. Afterwards you can try the fish specialties in one of the restaurants on the rivers bank. You can also find various seafood delicacies.

Ada Bojana is a spectacular place due to the diversity of subtropical and mediterranean plants, some of which are unique for Europe. One has a feeling of being in the middle of a jungle due to the rich flora and the vivid and diverse fauna forms an exceptional microecological climate.

One other adventure that is not so well-known in Montenegro, but which you can enjoy with our agency is visiting the natural habitat of the pink flamingo. Real, pink flamingo in Montenegro!

The sandy beaches have very fine sand similar to milled flour. In the summer time the water becomes a little bit cooler due to the river flow, but that can’t ruin in any way your swimming in the shallow sea water with sandy ground. Kilometres of fine sand turning into long sandbars provide all the needed conditions for a wonderful rest in the clear sea water and the gentle wind Maestral quarantees a nice coolness in the summer heat.

Beach, Ada Bojana, Montenegro, foto: Mladifilozof, Wikimedia

Anyone who has visited Ada Bojana will assure you that it is ideal for sunbathing. Wide beaches, sand-dunes and a unique flora and fauna will guarantee the feeling of being on the other part of the planet, aspecially if you arrive from the flat of the country.

Dragan: “I can describe windsurfing at Ada with only one word – it is fantastic!”

Ada Bojana is a popular place for the windsurfing lovers.Don’t worry if you are just a begginer, there is a wonderful shool of windsurfing here. The winds provide perfect waves, which are as great for the begginers as well as for the experienced tourists. The begginers can hone their first steps in windsurfing on the flat surface of the pond. Within a week of training you will already surf on the shallow water and after one month you will have the ability to try yourself out on the open water!

There is a school of horse-riding opened on Ada Bojana from 1975.

Ada Bojana is appx one hour from Petrovac ( Ada Bojana is located within 30 min from the town of Bar). Enjoy the trip on our comfortable, air-conditioned car. We can also visit Ulcin on the way.

The Old City is surrounded with cyclopean walls and it can be reached either from the North-Eastern side by land or by the sea.One of the most important historical places of value is the Slave square, where pirates used to have brought and sold their slaves. There is a legend that the famous Spanish writer and poet Miguel de Cervantes was held as a slave here for 5 years. It is believed that he wrote the major part of his book “Don Quixote” while he was in slavery and he named the heroine Dulcinia after the former name of Ulcin – Dulcinium.

The city museum is situated on the Slave square. It consists of three buildings. One of them is the 14th century mosque with many arheological relics: illyrian ceramics, catherdal columns and turkish headstones. The other building of the complex is Kula Balsicha ( 12th century) – here you can find some interesting artistic exhibitions, this is the place for secret prayer of the famous dissident and reformer Sabbatai Zevi. You can find an etnographic exhibition in the third building of the complex, with articles of fishing, hunting and national costumes. In the western part of the city you can find majestic buildings – the Balsicha palace – a former residence of the Montenegrian rulers and the Venice Palace – the sitting place of the city authorities.

Erica: “The city is a spectacular sight at both day and nightime”

The new part of Ulcin is aslo very interesting for sightseeing. First of all we recommend you to try the local sweets and also take a walk along the famous street with jewellery stores where one can find something very special and rare.

The first pharmacy and weapon factory were also opened here and in the beggining of the 20th century the first pearl jewellery was made on the Marica factory.

Valeria:”Majestic place right in the heart of the mountains. Delicious fish with reasonable prices”

At the entrance to the town you will see the small stone Danilov bridge. It was built by prince Danilo in 1853 in the memory of his father Stanko Petrovic. Near to the bridge on the left bank of the river the prince built a one story house Mostina which has remained till the present days. The bridge connected the town and part of the old merchant way Rijeka Crnojevica – Virpazar. King Nikola I Petrovic built a winter palace Leskovac and a big bridge that connected Rijeka with Virpazar. This bridge is 120 m long and is called the New bridge.

The oldest remained historical monument in Rijeka Crnojevica is the house of St Peter.

To fulfill the impression from this lovely place we recommend you to try the numerous fish specialities ( dried bleak is well-known all over the world due to its original taste and is very popular among the italiens), also find time to take long walks and hire a boat for a ride on the lake.

Enjoy the ride in the modern, comfortable air-conditioned car and within only 45 minutes we will reach the city of Cetinje. It is the historical capital of Montenegro, which is located 32 km away from Budva.

The city is situated at the foot of Lovcen mountain at the altitude of 670 m above sea level and is the well-known city-museum due to the numerous historical buildings, relics, monasteries, churches and museums.Cetinje is a real visit card of Montenegro thanks to its authentic architecture, numerous monuments and magical side-streets.

Amien: “This is an incredible place for all nature and history admirers”

In the past Cetinje was a battlefield, a shelter for Montenegrian people and also the central place where the most important royal dynasty of Petrovic-Negus lived and ruled. The period of their reign is a matter of real pride among the Montenegrian people.

Petar II Petrovic – Njegos foto: Đorđe D.
Peter Petrovic-Negus II was the 5th member of the dynasty and certainly deserves a special place in the countries history and culture. We recommend you to visit the most important place connected with the dynasty – Biljarda – it was the formal residence of Peter Petrovic-Negus II, Montenegrian prince, ruler, great writer and philosopher. The residence got its name after the billiard table the prince bought in Beche. This is the place where the prince gave life to his thoughts on paper and wrote his masterpiece “The mountain wreath”. The air here is filled with memories of that time and you will have the chance to feel the entourage of the period when the greatest books of the 19th century were written.

Right near the Biljarda (1917)in a glass hall you can find a very interesting relief model of Montenegro. The model will show you the beauties of this small but proud country. It will help you understand why not one invader managed to conquer it!

After visiting the Bilarda you can take a slow walk through the town streets or drink cofee in one of the numerous cafes. We recommend you to visit the Cetinje monastery, with the right hand of St John the Baptist – with which he baptized Jesus Christ and also the church on Chupura where you will find the tombstones of the royal dynasty of Petrovic-Negus.

Cetinje Manastery, Montenegro, foto: Koroner, Wikimedia

Negus chose this incredible place for eternal peace as though he wished to overlook his land and people even after his death. The legend says that he chose peak Jezerski which is the second high on Lovcen mountain, because he believed that the highest peak should be left for future generations and rulers. Today on the highest peak – Shtirovnik – there is a television tower, so we can say that the great ruler made the right choice! =)

Darel: “A very steep road but unbelievably beautiful! An incredible view of Kotor, Boka bay, mountain peaks and the Negus mausoleum – all deserves the highest mark! ”

The Negus grave is turned into a mausoleum. It was built by the Croatian architect Ivan Mestrovic on a place where a former church was ruined ( the church was built in 1854 in the name of St Peter of Cetinje). The church was bombed during World War II and was completely destoyed in 1974, and afterwards the mausoleum was built here.

A 20 km long asfalt road leads from Cetinje to the mausoleum. You cant get straight to the mausoleum by car, you will have to take the long staircase up the tunnel. There are 461 stairs and when you reach the very top you will find yourself at the altitude of 1660 m above sea level. Take a deep breath and open your eyes widely. Turn around slowly. You will be fascinated with the incredible views of the Boka bay, Skadar lake, high mountain peaks and also part of Albania. The legend says that you can even see the Italian coast on very bright sunny days.

Njegoš mausoleum on Lovcen – sculpture of Njegoš in the chapel, Photo: Milica Buha, Wikipedia

In the mausoleum you will see two stone figures – of mother and daughter and also the figure of Negus himself. His tombstone is located in the heart of the mausoleum. Here we finish the story of the famous ruler and writer, the important part of Montenegrian history. You will get the complete impression of the Balkan people from the nature beauties, culture and history of this region.

Milana: ” The National park of Lovcen offers many opportunities for active vacation. Along with hiking and visiting the mausoleum with its spactacular view of the surroundings, you can visit the adventure park. You can find everything you need here, it was an unforgettable day!”

Our agency will organize an unforgettable sopping tour in Mepas mall – the biggest mall in Mostar.

Mostar is a city which is the cultural and economical center of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It got its name after the guards of the bridges (so called “mostari”) across the Neretva river. The city is well known due to the Old Bridge which was built in the 16th century and symbolizes the connection between the West and Oriental cultures.

The bridge was completely destroyed on November 9, 1993 by the HVO (Croatian Defence Council) and than it was reconstructed after the war ending in 2004. The Old Bridge is the first historical monument in Bosnia and Herzegovina which is on the list of UNESCO Worlds Cultural Heritage.

We travel to Mostar in our modern, comfortable, air-conditioned cars along the Adriatic coast and than to the town of Trebinje after the border. We can make a short stop in Trebinje and than continue our trip to Mostar through the cities of Stolac and Ljubine. If you are willing to see the historical and cultural monuments of Mostar, we will organize an excursion around the Old Town in the company of a local guide.

All the buildings in the Old Town have remained their authentic appearance and you will feel like you have travelled through time and fully plunge into the Oriental atmosphere.

Jan: “We have had an amazing adventure travelling to Mostar. The traditions and history. Mostar is a place that will remain in our memory forever!”

The Koski Mehmed Pasa mosque built in 1617 is the only mosque which has remained its original ornaments and the color of the walls. You will also have the opportunity to visit the traditional Turkish home, where you will get acquainted with the life and traditions of the Muslims living in Mostar. The buildings from the Austrian-Hungarian time complete the rich architecture of the city. This mix of different cultures gives Mostar its incredible charm. In spite of the vivid history of the region, Mostar works on keeping piece between all the nationalities inhabiting it. Due to the numerous Muslim, Catholic, Orthodox and Jewish temples Mostar is the only multinational city in this area.

After visiting the Old Town we recommend you to visit one of the national restaurants and try the traditional cuisine. One of the most popular national dishes in Bosnia and Herzegovina ( as well as in other formal Yugoslavian countries) is called “cevapi” – spicy minced mutton. “Cevapi” came to the Balkan Peninsula during the Turkish ruling and became one of the main dishes. Restaurants which are specialized in making “cevapi” are called “cevapdzinica”.

Heather: “Kind and polite staff, quick service and nice prices. And the food…I would recommend you the food even for breakfast”.

“Cevapi” are usually served on a plate or in a flatbread in the quantity of 5-10 pieces along with sliced onion, sour cream or kaymak, ajvar, feta cheese, ground red pepper.

The other national dishes which you should try while you are in Mostar are “burek” and the incomparable “sarma”. “Sarma” – is minced meat mixed with rice, wrapped into leaves of sour cabbage. This dish is traditionally prepared in the winter time and for big religious celebrations ( such as Bayram and Christmas). At the end of your meal please try the traditional Turkish pastry.

Since 2012 Mostar is known for the beautiful shopping mall covering a territory of 100 000 sq km (7 floors). According to the opinion of the local people and tourists who have visited it, it is an absolutely new experience.

Ivan: “Last month me and my friends visited Mostar and we went for a snack in McDonalds first.”

In Mepas mall you can find over 80 shops, cafes, restaurants and many other locations that beforehand have been available only in megalopolises. You can choose something from the collections of Berska, Stadivarius, Zara, Pull&Bear, New Yorker, Terranova, S’Oliver, Levi’s and many others.

You might feel a little dizzy from the wide choice in Mepas mall, but one thing we can guarantee – you will be completely satisfied with the trip to Mostar with us!
